New Consignaction Return Site Opens in Laval as Part of Deposit System Expansion

The Association québécoise de récupération des contenants de boissons (AQRCB), better known under its public brand Consignaction, has announced the opening of a new Consignaction return site at 4265 Sainte-Rose Boulevard in Laval-Ouest. This marks another step in the modernization and expansion of Québec’s beverage container deposit system.
The new site features state-of-the-art automated equipment designed to handle larger volumes of returnable containers quickly and efficiently.
“Consignaction is introducing a renewed experience for returning beverage containers. This new model enhances customer convenience while reflecting the best practices in the field,” said Maryse Taupier, Vice-President of Network Operations at the AQRCB/Consignaction.
Modernized Return Options
Dedicated exclusively to the recovery of deposit containers, the Laval-Ouest Consignaction site offers two return methods:
- Unit Return, using automated reverse vending machines;
- Express Return, allowing customers to drop off unsorted containers in a bag.
Refunds can be received either in cash or electronically for Unit Returns, and electronically only for Express Returns, since sorting and counting occur in the following days. Customers using the Consignaction mobile app can track and receive their refunds digitally.
Staff are on-site to assist customers Monday to Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A Growing Hybrid Network
Across Québec, thousands of return locations are being rolled out as part of the province’s evolving hybrid model combining dedicated Consignaction and Consignaction+ sites with Zone Consignaction return points at retailers. This transformation aims to process higher container volumes efficiently and reach a 90% recovery rate by 2032.
Phase 2: Deposit Expansion to Plastic Beverage Containers
As of March 1, 2025, all ready-to-drink plastic beverage containers between 100 mL and 2 L are now included in the deposit system covering plastic bottles of water, juice, milk, sports drinks, and spirits. This expansion represents roughly 1.5 billion plastic bottles under deposit.
The government has postponed Phase 3, which will extend deposits to:
- Glass containers not yet covered (wine and spirits bottles), and
- Multi-layer cartons, such as milk and juice boxes.
This next phase is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2027.
