FC Supra du Québec has made a change to its sporting leadership midway through its inaugural Canadian Premier League season, parting ways with Sporting Director and Director of Operations Mateo Cabanettes.

The club announced the decision on August 18 and named Shady Saleh as its new Director of Team Operations. Saleh will report to FC Supra President Rocco Placentino and Executive Advisor Nick De Santis.

The change comes with Supra sitting fifth in the Canadian Premier League standings. According to the club, the team has a 5-3-8 record this season.

Cabanettes departs during inaugural season

Cabanettes joined FC Supra before the club’s official launch and was involved in assembling the roster for its first CPL season.

FC Supra did not provide specific reasons for his departure beyond indicating that the organization believed a change in sporting leadership was appropriate at this stage of its development.

“Mateo contributed to the club during an important period of its development,” said Rocco Placentino, president and co-founder of FC Supra du Québec.

“We have significant ambitions for this club, and we believe the time is right for a change in sporting leadership, to build on the progress made to date and position the club for continued growth and success,” he added.

Placentino also thanked Cabanettes for his work with the organization and wished him success in his future projects.

Shady Saleh appointed Director of Team Operations

Saleh moves into the position after serving as Team Manager during FC Supra’s inaugural season.

In his new role, he will oversee the club’s sporting and team operations. According to FC Supra, his previous position allowed him to develop familiarity with the team’s players, staff and day-to-day operations.

“Shady has been an important part of the club’s first season and has built strong relationships across the organization,” Placentino said. “He knows this group well and brings a steady, thoughtful approach to the team.”

The club says Saleh will be responsible for providing continuity and supporting the squad through the remainder of the 2026 season.

Previous experience in Quebec soccer

Before joining FC Supra, Saleh held several positions within Quebec soccer organizations.

From 2015 to 2018, he worked in team management roles with CF Montréal, then known as the Montréal Impact, supporting FC Montréal and the organization’s academy teams. He also previously served as General Manager of AS St-Lambert.

Saleh also has experience as a player. Between 2009 and 2011, he represented Trois-Rivières Attak, the Montréal Impact reserve team that competed in the Canadian Soccer League at the time.

According to FC Supra, Saleh won the league championship during his first season with the club and was also part of Egypt’s U-20 national team program from 2010 to 2011.

Supra continues its first CPL season

FC Supra began competing in the Canadian Premier League in 2026 after the Quebec-based club was officially launched in September 2025.

With the club currently fifth in the standings, Saleh will now oversee team operations for the remainder of Supra’s first season as the organization continues its inaugural CPL campaign.
