Quebec Liberals complete Laval team with Madeleine Féquière in Chomedey

One day after Quebec’s provincial election campaign officially began, the Quebec Liberal Party completed its six-candidate team in Laval on August 28 with the announcement of former Canadian consul general in Chicago Madeleine Féquière as its candidate in Chomedey.
The PLQ has presented Féquière as part of leader Charles Milliard’s economic team. Her nomination completes a Laval slate composed of five women and one man across the island’s six provincial ridings.
Hours after the announcement, all six candidates gathered in Laval for the official opening of their shared campaign office, where Liberal supporters and volunteers heard from several members of the local team.
Among them was outgoing Mille-Îles MNA Virginie Dufour, the only Liberal representing a Laval riding when the election was called.
“It was hard being the only MNA from Laval,” Dufour told the crowd, adding that she was looking forward to having the five other candidates join her at the National Assembly to represent the city.
Madeleine Féquière leaves Chicago for Chomedey
Until recently, Féquière served as Canada’s consul general in Chicago, representing Canadian interests in the American Midwest.
According to information released by the Quebec Liberal Party, she was still in Chicago on August 27, before Charles Milliard officially presented her candidacy the following morning.
Before entering Canadian diplomacy, Féquière worked at Domtar, where her responsibilities included global credit risk management.
A Concordia University graduate, she has professional experience in administration, risk management and international trade. Her career has included work in sectors such as agri-food, technology, telecommunications and pulp and paper.
She has also served on several boards, including those of Investissement Québec and the Université de Montréal, and is a member of the Order of Canada.
Liberals point to international experience
During the campaign office opening, Dufour welcomed Féquière to the team while referring to the current international economic environment.
“We’re living through a tariff war. This is the experience we need,” Dufour said.
The Quebec Liberals have highlighted Féquière’s international trade experience amid commercial tensions between Canada and the United States.
In an exclusive interview with Média Laval on August 28, Féquière said she wants to put her international experience to work for Quebecers if elected.
She also said she intends to meet residents across Chomedey to better understand their concerns and, if elected, bring those issues to the National Assembly.

Six candidates share one Laval campaign office
The campaign office opening was also one of the first public events bringing together all six Laval Liberal candidates since the local slate was completed.
Louis Ialenti, the candidate in Vimont-Auteuil, welcomed supporters to his riding, where the shared Laval campaign office is located.
Dufour explained that the six candidates chose to operate from the same campaign office, a decision intended in part to facilitate collaboration between their teams during the election period.
She also emphasized the role volunteers would play over the coming weeks.
“Laval is going to be a strong team,” Dufour told those gathered.
Five women and one man on Laval Liberal slate
The Quebec Liberal Party now has candidates in all six provincial ridings in Laval.
Dufour is seeking a second term in Mille-Îles. First elected in 2022, she was the only Liberal MNA representing Laval when the election was called.
Caroline De Guire, former president and CEO of the Laval Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is running in Laval-des-Rapides.
In Sainte-Rose, the Liberals are fielding Dr. Cécile Tremblay, a microbiologist-infectious disease specialist and clinician-researcher who was also involved in public discussions surrounding COVID-19 during the pandemic.
Ialenti, an entrepreneur, lawyer and university lecturer, is running in Vimont-Auteuil.
Marie Claude Fournier is the Liberal candidate in Fabre. A former director general of the Association de la construction du Québec Laval-Laurentides, she has a background in law and more than 20 years of management experience, according to the PLQ.
Féquière completes the team in Chomedey.
Candidates come from different professional backgrounds
The six Liberal candidates in Laval come from a range of professional backgrounds.
Dufour has experience in municipal and provincial politics, De Guire in economic development, Tremblay in health and medical research, Ialenti in entrepreneurship and law, Fournier in construction and management, and Féquière in diplomacy and international trade.
The PLQ currently holds one of Laval’s six provincial ridings and is seeking to retain Mille-Îles while winning the other five seats.
Quebec’s provincial election campaign officially began on August 27. Election day is scheduled for October 5.
