CANOPÉE launches summer photo contest highlighting Laval’s urban forests
Laval residents are being invited to explore the city’s wooded areas this summer through a new photography contest organized by CANOPÉE – Le réseau pour la forêt urbaine.
The contest, titled Summer in Laval’s Urban Forests, encourages participants to capture the beauty of Laval’s natural spaces before Aug. 12.
According to the organization, the initiative aims to showcase the city’s urban forests while encouraging residents to discover nearby natural areas and strengthen their connection with nature.
Showcasing Laval’s forests
Participants are invited to photograph remarkable trees, wildlife, landscapes or memorable moments experienced in Laval’s wooded areas during the summer of 2026.
CANOPÉE says particular attention is encouraged for forests under its management, including Bois de l’Équerre, Bois Armand-Frappier, Bois de la Source, Bois du Souvenir, Bois de l’Orée-des-Bois, the Centre de la nature Urban Forest and Bois Papineau, although photographs taken in any wooded area within Laval are eligible.
“Every forest tells a story. This contest is an invitation to slow down, observe the details around us and share the beauty of Laval’s forests through your own perspective,” the organization said in a statement.
How to participate
Participation is free and open to everyone.
Photos may be submitted either by posting them in the comments of CANOPÉE’s official Facebook contest post or by publishing them on a public Instagram account while tagging @reseaucanopee and using the hashtag #ConcoursCanopee2026.
Each participant may submit up to three original photographs before 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 12.
According to CANOPÉE, winners will be contacted through its social media platforms during the following week.
Two prizes to be awarded
The contest will feature two awards:
- Grand Jury Prize, selected by a jury.
- People’s Choice Award, presented to the finalist receiving the most reactions on the contest’s official Facebook post.
Winners will have the opportunity to choose either a tree to be planted in their yard or plants for their balcony.
Respecting nature
CANOPÉE is also reminding participants to help protect Laval’s natural environments while taking photographs.
The organization encourages visitors to remain on designated trails to minimize impacts on wildlife habitats and sensitive ecosystems.
CANOPÉE is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, enhancing and improving access to Laval’s urban forests through education, conservation and community engagement initiatives.
