A Pop-Up Shop to Tackle Textile Waste Arrives in Laval

Source Cominar

From October 20 to 26, 2025, several Laval organizations including the thrift shop Au Jardin de la Famille de Fabreville, Club Tissus, and Cominar will come together to present the pop-up shop Magasine ta solution! at Centre Laval.

Launched as part of the Quebec Waste Reduction Week coordinated by the Front commun pour la gestion des déchets, this unique initiative aims to raise awareness about textile waste and promote creative, concrete solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of clothing production and consumption.

After a successful first edition in Montreal in March, organizer Concertation Montréal (CMTL) is bringing the concept to Laval, thanks to the mobilization of local players engaged in the ecological transition of the textile and fashion sectors.

An immersive experience at the heart of a shopping center

The Laval edition of Magasine ta solution! will invite residents to reflect on their clothing consumption habits through interactive and creative activities, including:

  • Sale of second-hand clothing to benefit the nonprofit Au Jardin de la Famille de Fabreville
  • Practical advice to avoid one-time clothing purchases, especially ahead of Halloween
  • Free workshops led by stylists and sewing professionals on how to repair, transform, and personalize clothing

Throughout the week, organizations such as Club Tissus, the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi de Laval, La Centrale des artistes, Équiterre, Tellement Rose and Trolet will animate activities. Fashion experts like Paulandre Toussaint, Myriam Dulmage, Geneviève Tremblay, and journalist Lolitta Dandoy will also host workshops on upcycling, garment care, and styling.

The pop-up shop will be located at Centre Laval (across from Renaud-Bray, Entrance 1 or 2), opening October 20 at 10 a.m.

A collective effort for change

This co-created project provides a rare opportunity for local businesses, organizations, and residents to collaborate on common challenges and design sustainable solutions together. It strengthens partnerships while showcasing local initiatives that fight textile waste.

Textile waste: a pressing issue

In Quebec, each person consumes an average of 40 kg of new textiles annually, with 82% of garments imported. Since 2011, the quantity of textiles sent to landfills has more than doubled a troubling trend highlighting the need for change.

The Laval edition will also welcome groups from daycare to college levels, ensuring that younger generations are equipped early with the knowledge and tools to adopt sustainable habits.

A traveling project across Quebec

In 2026, CMTL will extend the Magasine ta solution! tour to Lanaudière and Outaouais, supported by Quebec’s Action-Climat Québec program under the Plan for a Green Economy 2030.

“Everyday choices have a major impact on greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative goes further by offering alternatives and empowering citizens to act,” said Nicolas Girard, Director General of the Fonds d’action québécois pour le développement durable (FAQDD).

“With this original initiative, CMTL brings forward tangible solutions to reduce textile waste, in line with the objectives of the Plan for a Green Economy 2030,” added Jocelyn Pauzé, President of Concertation Montréal.
