The winds of change blew across Laval as the Mouvement lavallois – Équipe Stéphane Boyer secured a decisive victory in the municipal elections held on November 2. The party captured 58,013 votes, representing 58.87% of the total, and now holds 17 of Laval’s 22 districts, up from 14 in 2021.

Incumbent mayor Stéphane Boyer won by a margin of 36,581 votes over his closest rival, Claude Larochelle of Parti Laval, who received 21,432 votes (21.75%). Frédéric Mayer of Action Laval followed in third with 19,091 votes (19.37%).

According to Élections Laval, 98,536 voters cast their ballots out of 325,231 registered, for a 30.3% turnout, a slight increase from 28.3% in 2021.

A Triumphant Evening

Speaking to over a hundred supporters gathered at Les Insulaires on boulevard de la Concorde, Mayor Boyer delivered an emotional victory speech shortly after being declared the winner by Radio-Canada.

“Tonight, the people of Laval have spoken loud and clear: ‘Yes, I do.’ Never since the creation of the Mouvement lavallois in 2008 have we achieved such a result. Tonight, we celebrate the greatest victory in our history.”
Stéphane Boyer, Mayor of Laval

The evening marked one of the most festive moments of the campaign, underscoring the party’s sweeping dominance a near-complete takeover of Laval’s electoral map.

New Faces at City Hall

Among the new councillors are Mohamed Ba, former school commissioner and director of Élan Politique Jeunesse, who becomes the first councillor for the new Carrefour district, and Carole St-Denis, former executive director of the Table régionale de concertation des aînés de Laval, elected in Champfleury.

Other community figures also join council, including Annick Senghor, succeeding Paolo Galati in Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, and Annick Brunet, who won Duvernay from Achille Cifelli, leader of Action Laval.

In Chomedey, the race came down to the wire: Aglaia Revelakis, running as an independent after leaving Action Laval, won by just 38 votes over Costa Deeb, an 18-year-old first-time candidate.

In Laval-des-Rapides, independent Pierre Anthian put up a strong challenge with 1,335 votes, but was overtaken by Martin Fiola of the Mouvement lavallois with 1,659 votes.
