During the holiday season in December, a gesture of generosity highlighted the strength of community engagement in Laval. Longtime volunteer Marlyne Morin donated $1,000 to Centre SCAMA, the organization where she has been actively involved for several years.
Located in Chomedey, Centre SCAMA works to support seniors’ ability to remain at home while developing projects that encourage social participation among older adults and ethnocultural communities.
A sustained commitment to the Laval community
Ms. Morin also served as a board member of Centre SCAMA from June 2023 to June 2025 and remains deeply engaged in community life across Laval. She participates in multiple local initiatives, including the Société Saint-Vincent de Paul, and currently serves as president of the Club de l’Âge d’Or St-Martin de Laval.
Daily involvement with seniors
A regular volunteer with SCAMA’s meals-on-wheels program, Ms. Morin personally delivers prepared meals to residents aged 50 and over who are experiencing a loss of autonomy. According to the organization, this service plays a key role in supporting seniors’ independence and well-being.
A donation rooted in recognition
The $1,000 donation followed Ms. Morin receiving a $2,500 award from Léveillé Mazda Laval, recognizing her volunteer commitment to the Laval community. She chose to pass a portion of that recognition forward by donating to Centre SCAMA.
“Thank you to SCAMA for taking care of our seniors. Volunteering is rewarding. For those who have a few hours to give, come discover SCAMA, a beautiful and welcoming family. The donation I gave to SCAMA came from the $2,500 I received from Léveillé Mazda for my volunteer work. I thank them sincerely. Giving it forward,” she said.
Words of appreciation
In a Facebook post published on December 30, Centre SCAMA publicly acknowledged her contribution, describing Ms. Morin as a devoted volunteer who consistently gives her time and energy to the organization.
Interim Executive Director Hasmik Andranik also highlighted her impact, stating that Ms. Morin is a source of inspiration and a positive influence within the organization.
Saint-Martin City Councillor Aline Dib echoed those sentiments, noting that Ms. Morin embodies dedication, generosity and sincere commitment to Laval’s community.
A local example of solidarity
Through her continued involvement and recent donation, Marlyne Morin illustrates the essential role volunteers play in strengthening Laval’s community fabric, particularly in services supporting seniors, where each contribution helps improve quality of life and autonomy.
