Laval Police Officers Complete 1,100-Kilometer Cycling Tour for Opération Enfant Soleil

Credit City of Laval

A pack of 14 police officers from the Laval Police Service alongside local volunteers embarked on a six-day, 1,100-kilometer cycling journey across Quebec to raise funds for Opération Enfant Soleil.

The 29th edition of the annual cycling tour officially launched on Monday morning, May 25, outside the Laval Police Service Investigation Centre on Chomedey Boulevard. Participants scheduled their return to the departure point for Saturday, May 30, at approximately 4:00 p.m. after traversing more than 80 municipalities.

According to organizers, the route connects Laval to Quebec City, taking the cyclists through Montreal, Montérégie, the Eastern Townships, Beauce, the Capitale‑Nationale, and Mauricie, before heading back through parts of the Lanaudière region. To show solidarity with the cause, two police officers from the Quebec City Police Service joined the pack as it traveled through the Capitale-Nationale region.

“Every pedal stroke is driven by a shared desire to support children affected by illness and to help their families,” said Karine Ménard, Chief of the Laval Police Service.

Karine Ménard noted that the week represents deep-rooted teamwork and a strong community commitment.

The annual event stems from a long-standing tradition of local charitable engagement. Since the creation of the cycling tour in 1997, initiatives led by Laval police officers combined with community donations have raised more than $1.7 million for Opération Enfant Soleil to support medical care for sick children.

Audrey Lajeunesse, president of the cycling tour, emphasized that childhood illness impacts the entire family unit. According to Lajeunesse, the collective goal remains focused on improving the quality of life for these children and ensuring families gain access to better medical care.

Organizers invite the public to contribute to the campaign by making a donation directly through the event’s official website.
