Action Laval has announced on September 3, that 18-year-old Costa Deeb will be its candidate for the Chomedey district in the upcoming municipal elections on November 2.

Costa Deeb is described by the press release as an entrepreneur and active community leader, Deeb says he wants to bring new energy and a fresh perspective to local politics.

Early Leadership and Community Involvement

According to the press release Deeb’s leadership journey began in high school. As student council president at École Saint-Maxime, he helped lead a project that won a gold medal at the Forces Avenir – Projet Engagé competition, a recognition that covered Laval, Montreal, and the Laurentians.

He later served as vice-president of Laval’s student committee, where he advocated for reduced cafeteria prices, building renovations, and better conditions for students.

In addition to his school involvement, Deeb launched his own marketing and promotional products agency, helping local entrepreneurs bring their projects to life. He is currently pursuing a DEC-BAC pathway in business management.

A Platform for Youth and Community

“As a city councillor, I want to encourage young people to get involved and make their voices heard. My commitment is to create inclusive, safe, and accessible sports and cultural spaces where everyone can contribute to the life of our district. I also want to improve road conditions and street safety in Chomedey,” Deeb said.

Reaction to Recent Announcements

When asked by Laval Weekly on September 7 about recent municipal announcements, Deeb was critical of Mayor Stéphane Boyer’s approach:

“Once again, the mayor makes an announcement without having signed any agreement or contract. On the ground, residents tell me they are most concerned about the state of finances and the management of basic services. Laval already faces a $17.3 million budget shortfall, yet street sweepers and water trucks remain unused.

People also raise concerns about sewers and flooding: with nearly 2,000 overflows each year and a growing population, we absolutely must invest in infrastructure.

Citizens feel the mayor’s priorities are not the right ones and that too many decisions are made without the full picture. My goal is clear: protect taxpayers’ interests and money, and put basic services back at the top of the agenda.”

Support from Party Leadership

Action Laval’s mayoral candidate, Frédéric Mayer, welcomed Deeb’s candidacy as a sign of renewal within the party.

“Costa perfectly represents the political renewal we want to offer Laval residents. At just 18, he already shows maturity and remarkable commitment. His energy, vision, and determination demonstrate that he is ready to defend the interests of Chomedey citizens with passion,” Mayer stated.
