Pop-Up Cinema series brings four Quebec films and filmmaker talks to Laval
La Casa du 7ème art is launching a four-film series at Salle André-Mathieu this fall in collaboration with Co-Motion and Ciné-Quartier.
The Pop-Up Cinema series will run from September to November, with each screening followed by a discussion featuring filmmakers, producers or other guests connected to the work.
The initiative is supported by the Canada Media Fund.
Four screenings planned
The series begins on Sunday, September 20, at 3 p.m. with La Bataille de Saint-Léonard, presented in the presence of filmmaker Félix Rose. The documentary looks back at the 1968-1969 language conflict in Saint-Léonard and its place in Quebec’s political and linguistic history.
On October 13 at 7:30 p.m., filmmaker Érik Cimon will attend a screening of Montréal New Wave, which explores Montreal’s New Wave cultural scene and the artists who contributed to it.
Deleau : le cinéma en liberté, directed by Michel La Veaux, will be presented on November 1 at 3 p.m. in the presence of film author and commentator Michel Coulombe. The documentary focuses on Pierre-Henri Deleau and the history of the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.
The series concludes on November 20 at 3 p.m. with Space Cadet by Kid Koala. Producer Ginette Petit is expected to attend the screening. The animated musical film explores themes including memory, aging and family relationships.
Bringing filmmakers and audiences together
La Casa du 7ème art says its objective is to increase access to Quebec cinema in Laval while creating opportunities for audiences to meet the people behind the films.
The organization won both the jury and audience awards at the Pôle régional d’économie sociale de Laval’s 2024 pitch competition.
The four screenings will take place at Salle André-Mathieu.
