The team behind Laval, le film has announced a new musical collaboration with Quebec band Dauphins as the feature film continues through post-production.

Under the agreement, the band’s song Lucky Charms will be used primarily in the film’s opening sequence and may also appear in promotional material connected to its release.

The independent production is led by Média Communautaire Lavallois (MCL), directed and co-produced by Noah Trentadue and produced by Alberto Georgian Mihut.

Dauphins joins the project

Dauphins is composed of Mathilde Côté, Mathis Boulay, Adam Plante-Cary, Laurent Duval and Antoine Boucher.

Formed in Sainte-Thérèse in 2024 and previously known as Céréales Dauphins, the group mixes influences from 1970s rock with contemporary Quebec pop.

The band released Lucky Charms in 2024 and Craches-tu (ton amour) in 2025, and participated in the Francouvertes in 2026.

According to the production team, the collaboration is intended to reinforce the film’s musical identity while also highlighting emerging Quebec artists.

“The opening is one of the most crucial parts of a film. Without a strong opening piece of music, it won’t work,” Mihut said in the announcement.

“When Noah played Lucky Charms, I immediately said: that’s exactly what we need. The song works perfectly with the universe of Laval, le film and sets the energy we wanted to convey right from the very first minutes.”

Trentadue said the song matched the tone the team wanted for the film.

“I wanted the musical world of Laval, le film to reflect its warm, youthful and ambitious tone, and Lucky Charms does that naturally,” he said.

A connection with Laval

Keyboardist Laurent Duval said the band connected with the project after learning more about the film and its setting.

“When we met the team and the project was explained to us, we immediately connected with the idea of a coming-of-age film set in Laval, a city that is very important to the beginnings of our band,” Duval said.

He added that Lucky Charms explores what he described as the sense of ambition often associated with youth.

Film remains in post-production

Pre-production on Laval, le film began in 2024, followed by principal photography across Laval during the summer of 2025.

The film is now in post-production, including picture editing, sound work, music integration and colour grading.

The production team says it is also preparing different versions of the film ahead of its eventual release.

A fictional look at Laval identity

Laval, le film is a fiction feature presented in mockumentary form.

The story follows three young Laval residents, Adam, Lisa and Alex, who decide to make a documentary about their city in an effort to better understand its identity.

Their project leads them through different parts of Laval and explores themes including growth, diversity, community involvement, neighbourhood life and belonging.

The film remains an independent production involving young artists, volunteers, industry professionals and community members.

The production is currently seeking a distributor. A release date has not yet been announced.
