SCAMA Celebrates 45 Years of Service to the Laval Community

The Service Communautaire d’Aide au Maintien de l’Autonomie (SCAMA) proudly marked its 45th anniversary of service and dedication to the Laval community. Founded on October 22, 1980, under the name Télébénévole and officially incorporated as SCAMA on February 16, 1995, the organization’s mission is to support the autonomy and home care of residents aged 50 and over.
Over the decades, SCAMA has stood out for its values of inclusion, humanity, and solidarity, as well as for the diversity of its services, which include:
- Meals-on-wheels
- Friendly calls and visits
- Medical accompaniment
- Community activities
- Frozen meal distribution and food assistance
- Diversity and inclusion awareness campaigns
- AllôSam! support services
A milestone celebration
On Friday, September 19, 2025, SCAMA celebrated this milestone with an evening of emotion and recognition at La Sirène reception hall. The event highlighted the organization’s history, mission, and above all, the collective impact it has had for nearly half a century.
Thanks to the dedication of its team, the coordination of Projets SCAMA, and the steadfast support of partners, volunteers, beneficiaries, and board members, the evening was a resounding success.
Several dignitaries attended, including:
- Annie Koutrakis, MP for Vimy
- Valérie Schmaltz, MNA for Vimont, representing Minister Christopher Skeete, Minister Responsible for the Laval Region
- Sona Lakhoyan Olivier, MNA for Chomedey
- Stéphane Boyer, Mayor of Laval
- Yves Volcy, Director General of the CSSL
- As well as municipal councillors and CISSSL representatives.
Their presence and remarks reaffirmed the importance of SCAMA’s mission and encouraged the continuation of its vital work.
A tribute in film
A highlight of the evening was the launch of the documentary Au cœur de SCAMA, directed by filmmaker James Horth. The tribute film sensitively retraces the organization’s history and illustrates the essential role it plays in weaving strong bonds of solidarity within the Chomedey community.
This anniversary was more than just a celebration it embodied the influence of SCAMA’s collective efforts and the strength of a united community.
