The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board (SWLSB) has appointed Tania Marchitello as its new Director of School Affairs and School Organization, bringing more than 20 years of experience in education to the position.

The appointment was announced on September 1. Marchitello succeeds Florence Delorme, who left the position after being appointed Director General of the school board in July 2026.

Marchitello has spent much of her career within the SWLSB, working as a teacher, pedagogical consultant and administrator at both the elementary and secondary levels.

More than 20 years in education

Before taking on her new position, Marchitello served as principal of Hillcrest Academy from 2023 to 2026.

She previously spent six years as principal of John F. Kennedy Elementary School, from 2017 to 2023.

According to the school board, her work throughout her career has focused on student success, pedagogical improvement, leadership development and school environments, as well as supporting students and staff.

“Ms. Marchitello is a respected educational leader who knows our schools, our communities, and our organization very well,” SWLSB Chairperson James Di Sano said in a statement.

“Her experience, along with her collaborative approach to leadership, will be an asset to this important role. On behalf of the Council of Commissioners, I congratulate her and wish her much success.”

New responsibilities across the school board

As Director of School Affairs and School Organization, Marchitello will oversee a department that works closely with administrators at the elementary and secondary levels.

Her responsibilities will include school organization, student registration and eligibility, out-of-zone requests and agreements between school boards.

The department also oversees complaint management, international students and daycare services.

SWLSB serves more than 14,000 students

The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board serves the English-language public school community across Laval, the Laurentides and Lanaudière.

According to the school board, it has more than 2,000 employees and serves over 14,000 students through 36 schools and four centres.

Its services include preschool, elementary and secondary education, as well as adult education, vocational training and business training.

The SWLSB describes itself as the third-largest English-language school board in Quebec.
