FC Supra du Québec has signed 17-year-old defender Eliakim Awonongbadje to an Exceptional Young Talent Standard Player Contract, the club announced on September 24.

The agreement is guaranteed through the 2028 Canadian Premier League season and includes club options for 2029 and 2030.

Awonongbadje becomes the first player in FC Supra history to move from a Development Contract to a Standard Player Contract.

From development deal to professional contract

Awonongbadje was among the first players signed to a Development Contract by FC Supra ahead of its inaugural season.

Since joining the first team, the centre back has made three appearances for the club.

“Eliakim has earned this opportunity through the work, commitment and maturity he has shown since joining us,” FC Supra President Rocco Placentino said in a statement.

Placentino added that the progression from a Development Contract to an Exceptional Young Talent deal reflects the player pathway the club wants to establish.

Young defender already has Quebec experience

Before joining FC Supra, Awonongbadje played with CS Saint-Laurent.

According to the club, he became the youngest goalscorer in Ligue1 Québec history in 2024 and later helped CS Saint-Laurent win both the Ligue1 Québec title and the Coupe du Québec.

He also won a gold medal with Team Québec at the 2025 Canada Games.

Awonongbadje originally joined FC Supra on a Development Contract in March 2026.

Development Contracts allow young players to train and compete in a CPL environment while maintaining amateur status and continuing to play for the amateur club holding their registration.

The Exceptional Young Talent designation allows CPL clubs to sign eligible Canadian players under 18 to Standard Player Contracts outside the primary roster.
