Laval’s urban forests to host cultural and nature activities this fall
Laval’s urban forests will become outdoor spaces for cultural, educational and nature-based activities this fall as CANOPÉE launches a new seasonal program running from September through November.
According to the organization, approximately 15 activities will take place across several wooded areas in Laval, combining nature observation with creative workshops, guided walks and community gatherings.
The programming will be offered in areas including Bois de l’Équerre, Bois de la Source, Bois Papineau, Bois Sainte-Dorothée, Bois Armand-Frappier, the urban forest at Centre de la nature and Bois de l’Orée-des-Bois.
Exploring Laval’s forests throughout the fall
Among the activities announced is the Tournée des bois, a series of weekly group walks designed to introduce participants to different urban forests across Laval.
CANOPÉE will also offer Journal nature workshops, where participants can use observation, writing and drawing to document the natural environment.
Shinrin-yoku sessions, inspired by the Japanese practice commonly known as forest bathing, are also part of the fall schedule.
Other guided activities will focus on biodiversity, birdwatching and observation of the night sky.
Residents invited to document biodiversity
The program will also include a citizen BioBlitz, an activity in which participants help observe and document species found within a defined natural area.
Creative activities will include Impressions forestières, a workshop inviting participants to use elements of the forest as inspiration for artistic creation.
CANOPÉE says the overall program is intended for a broad audience, including families, seniors, outdoor enthusiasts and residents interested in discovering Laval’s natural environments.
“The culture does not only exist within four walls. It is also built through landscapes, the stories a place tells, the knowledge we share and the emotions that nature creates,” CANOPÉE’s team said in a statement.
The organization says it views Laval’s forests not only as spaces for conservation, but also as places for learning, creativity, community activities and well-being.
Community events planned in Sainte-Dorothée
Larger community gatherings are also planned during the season.
A fall celebration and a community cleanup will take place at Bois Sainte-Dorothée, bringing residents together around the protection and appreciation of the natural environment.
Conferences and additional creative workshops are also included in the seasonal programming.
CANOPÉE is a Laval-based non-profit organization working to conserve, promote and improve access to urban forests through education, planting and community participation.
