Families will once again gather at Laval’s Centre de la nature on July 1 as the city celebrates Canada Day with a full day of free activities, entertainment and community events.

Canada Day marks the anniversary of Confederation, which officially created the country in 1867. This year, Canada celebrates its 159th anniversary.

According to the event organizers, the festivities will focus on family-friendly activities throughout the day, with inflatable games, creative workshops, face painting, public entertainers and live music.

Activities for all ages

Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Centre de la nature’s regular attractions, including the farm, playground, tropical greenhouse and boat rentals on the lake.

The program will feature a magic show for children, opportunities to meet members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and a variety of recreational activities, including soccer and displays by the Canadian Armed Forces.

Citizenship ceremony and Canada Day cake

One of the day’s highlights will be the citizenship ceremony welcoming new Canadians, scheduled for 1 p.m., following the singing of the national anthem and the raising of the Canadian flag at 12:50 p.m.

Official photographs will follow the ceremony before the traditional Canada Day cake cutting at 2:45 p.m.
