Le Pirate restaurant family launches Groupe Le Pirate after nearly 50 years in Laval

A Laval restaurant family whose history dates back to 1976 has announced the creation of a new corporate entity aimed at supporting future growth while maintaining its long-standing roots in the city.
De Civita family, owners of the well-known Le Pirate restaurant in Laval, has officially launched Groupe Le Pirate. The new organization brings together the family’s restaurant activities under a single structure as leadership gradually transitions to a new generation.
Founded by Alex De Civita Sr. in 1976, Le Pirate has operated in Laval for nearly five decades. The family says the creation of Groupe Le Pirate is intended to provide a framework for future development while preserving the restaurant’s identity and traditions.
A family business entering a new chapter
The new group will be led by Alex De Civita Jr. and Vincent De Civita, alongside founder Alex De Civita Sr., who remains active in the business.
“My father built Le Pirate with his hands and his heart almost fifty years ago,” said Alex De Civita in a statement. “Creating Groupe Le Pirate today is our way of protecting what he built and ensuring it continues into the future.”
According to the family, the move represents more than a corporate restructuring. They describe it as a commitment to maintaining their approach to hospitality, Italian culinary traditions and community involvement in Laval.
Rooted in Laval since 1976
The De Civita family says it intends to continue operating in the restaurant sector while exploring future opportunities through the new group.
“We are a Quebec family of Italian origin, and we are proud of both parts of our identity,” said Vincent De Civita. “That combination has been part of our kitchens and our way of welcoming guests since the very beginning.”
The family added that Groupe Le Pirate will remain focused on preserving the values that have shaped the business since its founding while preparing for future growth.
