On Sunday, March 30, conservative candidate Konstantinos Merakos officially launched his campaign headquarters for Laval-les-Îles in a morning event that drew approximately 100 supporters, according to organizers. The inauguration took place at the campaign headquarters, where candidate Grace Daou of Vimy, candidate Louis Ialenti of Alfred-Pellan, and Conservative Senator Leo Housakos were also in attendance.

The event began with the singing of the Canadian national anthem. Campaign director Paolo Tamburello then addressed the crowd to express his support for Merakos, thanking the volunteers and supporters who had gathered for the occasion.

Merakos, a lawyer by profession and a former conservative candidate in Chomedey under Éric Duhaime, shared his family history during his speech. He stressed the importance of the middle class for maintaining a robust democracy, declaring, “No democracy without the middle class.” His remarks emphasized his commitment to advocating for policies that support the working families of Laval-les-Îles.

According to the polling aggregator Canada 338, Merakos currently holds a 23 percent voter intention, compared to 51 percent for his Liberal opponent, Fayçal El-Khoury, who has represented Laval-les-Îles since 2015. Despite these figures, Merakos remained confident in his campaign, stating that he does not rely on polls. “Don’t believe the polls,” he urged, adding that his direct interactions with citizens and door-to-door engagement would ultimately reverse the trend.

Senator Leo Housakos took the stage to criticize the legacy of the Liberal Party. He argued that “the PLC is the same party with Carney that will lead us in the same direction as these past ten years. It is time to adopt a bold change to restore Canada’s greatness.” Housakos reiterated commitments from Pierre Poilievre regarding housing construction, lower taxes for the middle class, tougher sentencing, and responsible fiscal management.

The event concluded with a lively question-and-answer session during which the crowd engaged directly with Merakos on topics such as Canadian identity, defense investments, and economic policies. Prominent conservative figures, including Éric Duhaime, also voiced their support for Merakos, emphasizing that he has the qualities needed to win the election.
