A new monthly book club dedicated to Quebec and French Canadian literature is now available in Laval, offering readers an opportunity to meet, discuss books and discover local authors.

Sujet CLO announced in june the launch of its Laval chapter. Meetings will take place on the last Thursday of every month, with participants reading the same selected title before gathering for a guided discussion.

An all-inclusive reading experience

According to the organization, registration includes the book of the month, an exclusive annotation guide and a discussion session led by a volunteer trained by Sujet CLO.

The turnkey format is designed to make participation simple while encouraging readers to explore contemporary Quebec and Franco-Canadian literature.

For its first Laval meeting, the club will discuss C’était ça ou mourir by author Thélyson Orélien. According to Sujet CLO, translation rights for the novel have already been acquired by 21 publishers around the world.

A limited number of places remain available for the inaugural group, which will meet in the Duvernay neighbourhood.

Expanding across Quebec

“La littérature québécoise mérite d’être lue partout au Québec et je tenais à ce que Sujet CLO soit présent à Laval, troisième ville la plus peuplée du Québec. J’ai sauté de joie quand Leila, notre animatrice à Laval, m’a contactée pour lancer un club près de chez elle,” founder Maude Fiset said in a statement.

Founded in 2023, Sujet CLO operates turnkey book clubs in more than 20 cities and neighbourhoods across Quebec, including several locations in the Greater Montreal area.

According to the organization, its mission is to create welcoming spaces where readers can meet regularly to discuss and share their appreciation of literature from Quebec and across French-speaking Canada.
