According to the artist’s press release, STEPS reflects his personal journey from childhood in Congo to his arrival in North America, including time in Pittsburgh before settling in Montreal. In the text, written in the first person by Ya Cetidon, he describes the album as a record about progress, migration, family, fatherhood, resilience and the search for a better life.
The album includes songs such as Papa, Petit cœur, Bercail, Day N Night, Hello, On veut la Good Life, Kob, Beau Gosse, Ce soir, Sud America, Diamant and Malembe, according to the release.
Ya Cetidon also states that the album was created over several months with producers and collaborators including Toko, Razor, Dro x Yani, John-Adam Howard and Shash Frank.
The music video for Kob was also scheduled for release on May 29, according to the same announcement.
The artist is also expected to perform songs from the album during the Feaster Festival, which takes place May 30 and 31 at the Centre du Sablon in Laval. Feaster’s official website confirms the festival dates and location, while Tourisme Laval describes the event as an opportunity to discover local artists.
