As Quebec’s provincial election campaign gradually approaches, another high-profile Liberal Party nomination has been confirmed in Laval following the recent announcement of Dr. Cécile Tremblay in Sainte-Rose.

The Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) officially confirmed that Virginie Dufour will once again represent the party in the riding of Mille-Îles for the Oct. 5, 2026 provincial election.

The announcement was made during an investiture ceremony held May 9 in the presence of PLQ leader Charles Milliard and more than 100 party supporters from the region, according to a press release issued May 14.

A well-known figure in Laval politics

A Laval resident and mother of two, Dufour has represented Mille-Îles at the National Assembly since 2022. Before entering provincial politics, she served as a Laval city councillor for the Sainte-Rose district from 2013 to 2021 and sat on the city’s executive committee.

During her current mandate, Dufour has served as the Liberal opposition critic for environment, housing and municipal affairs, while also acting as regional spokesperson for Lanaudière and the Laurentians.

According to the PLQ release, she has also participated in several legislative initiatives at the National Assembly, including projects related to housing, environmental protection and PFAS contamination in waterways.

More than 575 local community requests supported

The party states that Dufour supported more than 575 requests from local organizations through Quebec’s volunteer action support program during her first mandate.

Projects mentioned in the release include the installation of a sensory unit at the CHSLD de La Pinière, support for the Popote roulante Bonjour Aujourd’hui et Après, tree planting initiatives with CANOPÉE and scientific equipment purchases for local schools.

In a statement included in the release, Dufour said she hopes to continue working on issues related to housing and the environment during a second term.

PLQ leader Charles Milliard described Dufour as an important member of the Liberal caucus and highlighted her municipal and provincial political experience.
