Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) groups in Laval are stepping up their efforts to reach residents struggling with alcohol dependence. More than twenty local groups meet weekly across the city, offering free, confidential and accessible support to anyone seeking to stop drinking.

AA meetings in Laval take place in various community spaces, with sessions held in the morning, at noon and in the evening. According to the organization, meetings follow a supportive and non-judgmental approach where participants share experiences and encouragement based on the principle of “alcoholics helping other alcoholics achieve sobriety.” No registration, fees or mandatory speaking are required.

Participants come from a wide range of backgrounds workers, parents, students, retirees and newcomers reflecting what AA describes as the widespread and cross-community impact of alcoholism.

Local AA groups also collaborate with community organizations and assistance centres that refer individuals who may benefit from attending meetings.

AA’s reminder to the public emphasizes that the only condition for taking part is the desire to stop drinking. The initiative aims to reach people who may be suffering in silence and help them discover a community committed to supporting sobriety.
