Residential housing starts in Laval increased sharply in 2025, reaching 4,613 units, according to the annual economic report released by Laval économique, the City of Laval’s economic development service.

In a press release issued June 3, 2026, Laval économique stated that the number of residential units started in 2025 rose by 128 percent, a result the organization links to strong real estate activity and renewed investor confidence despite broader economic uncertainty.

Laval GDP estimated at $24B

According to the report, Laval’s gross domestic product is estimated at nearly $24 billion, reflecting what the City describes as the continued diversification and dynamism of the local economy.

Mayor Stéphane Boyer stated in the release that Laval’s economic indicators, including annual investments above $2 billion, record housing starts and a strong labour market, position the city as a major economic driver.

More than $2.2B in investments

Public and private investments in Laval surpassed $2.2 billion in 2025, marking the fifth consecutive year that investments exceeded the $2 billion threshold.

The total value of residential and non-residential construction permits was estimated at more than $1 billion.

Laval économique also reported supporting 28 real estate projects tied directly to housing supply, representing investments of nearly $660 million.

Support for local businesses

According to Lidia Divry, director of Laval économique, the organization supported more than 1,780 Laval businesses in 2025.

The release states that $3.3 million in financial assistance was awarded, generating $30.3 million in investments across the territory. Laval économique says this represents nearly $10 in economic impact for each dollar invested by the City.

Export support through Prospérité Laval

The year also saw the launch of Prospérité Laval, a three-year, $4.5 million initiative aimed at helping Laval businesses expand into export markets and support long-term economic growth.

According to Laval économique, more than 45 businesses have already received support through the initiative to evaluate and develop new export opportunities.

Laval économique describes itself as the main point of contact for businesses seeking to grow, innovate or establish operations in Laval.
