With the expected start of Quebec’s provincial election campaign less than two weeks away, political parties are continuing to announce their candidates in Laval, where the Quebec Liberal Party has confirmed Marie Claude Fournier as its candidate in Fabre.

The August 12 announcement introduced Fournier, who until recently served as director general of the Association de la construction du Québec Laval-Laurentides. According to the Quebec Liberal Party, she has more than 20 years of management experience and a professional background that includes law, construction and entrepreneurship.

Her nomination brings the number of Liberal candidates announced in Laval to five as the party continues assembling its local team ahead of the October 5 provincial election.

Background in construction, law and entrepreneurship

According to information provided by the Quebec Liberal Party, Fournier holds a law degree and a master’s degree in notarial law.

She previously worked in private practice in real estate, construction and corporate law. Her professional experience also includes business development, project management and strategic communications.

The party says Fournier has founded and managed businesses during her career and has also been involved with community organizations.

Until recently, she served as director general of the Association de la construction du Québec Laval-Laurentides, where her work placed her in contact with issues affecting the construction industry and businesses operating in the sector.

Fournier also has previous electoral experience, having run in a federal election, according to the PLQ.

Housing and infrastructure among campaign priorities

Fournier said she wants to use her professional experience to represent residents of Fabre at the National Assembly.

“I am entering politics because I believe in Laval’s potential and in Quebec’s ability to do better. After more than twenty years leading teams, building businesses and managing major projects, I want to put that experience at the service of the citizens of Fabre,” Fournier said in a statement released by the party.

She identified housing, infrastructure and the quality of public services among the issues she intends to emphasize during the campaign.

Fournier also expressed her support for Liberal leader Charles Milliard as the party prepares for the October election.

Charles Milliard highlights construction experience

Quebec Liberal leader Charles Milliard focused on Fournier’s professional background when announcing her candidacy.

“Marie Claude Fournier knows the world of work, construction and entrepreneurship. She knows what it takes to bring projects to completion, and she also knows the cost when we fail to do so,” Milliard said.

The Liberal leader argued that her experience could be particularly relevant to housing and infrastructure issues in Laval.

The comments regarding Fournier’s qualifications and the priorities she intends to pursue represent positions expressed by the Quebec Liberal Party as part of its announcement.

Liberal candidate lineup taking shape in Laval

Fournier’s nomination in Fabre comes as the Quebec Liberal Party continues to announce candidates across Laval ahead of the provincial election.

In recent weeks, the party has confirmed incumbent MNA Virginie Dufour in Mille-Îles, Caroline De Guire in Laval-des-Rapides, Dr. Cécile Tremblay in Sainte-Rose and Louis Ialenti in Vimont-Auteuil.

Fournier now joins the Liberal lineup in Fabre as political parties continue preparing their teams in Laval ahead of the October 5 vote.
