New Consignaction+ Return Centre Opens in Chomedey

Laval is taking another step toward a more modern and efficient deposit-return system with the opening of a brand-new Consignaction+ return point in the Chomedey district. Located at 965K Curé-Labelle Boulevard, this site expands a rapidly growing network designed to make returning beverage containers simpler, faster, and more accessible for everyone.

This development is part of an initiative led by the Association québécoise de récupération des contenants de boissons/Consignaction, the organization mandated by the Government of Quebec to oversee the modernization of the deposit system. Based on the principle of extended producer responsibility, this approach brings together stakeholders from the beverage industry around a shared goal: improving recovery, optimizing recycling, and maximizing the value of containers.

A modernized return experience

The new Consignaction+ center stands out thanks to its state-of-the-art equipment, capable of quickly processing large volumes of containers. The goal is to simplify the user experience while improving system efficiency.

Three types of services are offered:

– Individual returns using automated machines

– Express returns, allowing users to drop off bags of unsorted containers – Bulk returns, designed to process hundreds of containers in just a few minutes

According to Jean-François Lefort, Vice-President of Strategy at AQRCB/Consignaction, this model aims to provide a renewed experience inspired by best practices, both in terms of technology and customer service.

An expanding network in Laval

With this opening, Laval now has seven Consignaction return locations, including two Consignaction+ centers. This expansion highlights the importance placed on accessibility and network performance.

Since 2024, the system has been evolving toward a hybrid model combining dedicated Consignaction and Consignaction+ centers, as well as return points integrated into certain retailers. This change aims to significantly increase recovery volumes and achieve an ambitious target of a 90% recovery rate by 2032.

Expansion of the deposit system already underway

The modernization of the system also includes a gradual expansion of accepted containers. Since March 1, 2025, all ready-to-drink plastic beverage containers from 100 ml to 2 L are now included. This represents approximately 1.5 billion additional bottles in the system.

A third phase is planned for March 1, 2027, which will include non-deposit glass bottles, such as wine and spirits bottles, as well as multi-layer carton containers like milk and juice cartons.

Laval at the heart of ecological change

With the rollout of these new infrastructures and the expansion of the deposit system, Consignaction is positioning itself as a key player in Quebec’s ecological transition. By making container returns simpler and more efficient, the initiative not only increases recovery volumes but also concretely reduces waste and strengthens a truly circular economy. For Laval residents, this new center goes far beyond being just a drop-off point, as it becomes a tangible and accessible everyday action to actively contribute to environmental protection and the building of a more sustainable future.
