FC Supra falls 1 – 0 to Cavalry FC in first Laval home match

The FC Supra du Québec lost 1 – 0 to Cavalry FC on May 3 at Stade Boréale, marking the club’s first official home match played in Laval.
The only goal of the game came late, as Tobias Warschewski converted a penalty in the 88th minute in a match that featured several contested decisions.
A tight match with limited chances
For much of the afternoon, both teams played a controlled and relatively defensive game, with few clear scoring opportunities.
The introduction of David Choinière in the 62nd minute helped increase the tempo for the Laval side.
According to pre-match notes from the club, FC Supra entered the game with a 2-1-0 record and sat third in the standings following a win against Halifax Wanderers. Cavalry FC, meanwhile, remained undefeated and is considered one of the league’s top teams.
Decisive penalty sparks reaction
The turning point came late in the second half when Cavalry FC was awarded a penalty following a video review requested by head coach Tommy Wheldon Jr.
Warschewski scored from the spot, giving his team the lead.
The decision drew strong reactions from FC Supra supporters, especially after a penalty appeal by the Laval side in the final minutes was not awarded following review.
First Laval match draws strong crowd
The match marked a milestone for FC Supra, which had previously played its home games at CEPSUM in Montreal.
A large crowd attended the game, including travelling supporters from Calgary. The team shares the venue with Les Roses de Montréal.
Among those present were Laval mayor Stéphane Boyer and former international midfielder Yaya Touré.
Forward Loïc Kwemi was absent due to injury.
Post-match reactions
Defender Diyaeddine Abzi said the team followed its game plan and aimed to play more directly but expressed frustration over the refereeing decisions, including what he believed should have been a penalty for his side.
Head coach Nick Razzaghi acknowledged the strength of the opponent and described the match as a more difficult outing for his team, noting that tactical considerations influenced certain decisions.

On the Cavalry side, Bradley Kamdem-Fewo highlighted the atmosphere, while Wheldon Jr described the match as a “beautiful chaos” and emphasized the importance of securing three points.
