Lorenzo Lagatta elected commissioner for SWLSB Division 9

Lorenzo Lagatta has been elected as commissioner for Electoral Division 9 of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, following a by-election held on March 22, 2026.
According to official results, Lagatta received 36 votes, ahead of Polizoi Christodoulakis with 32 votes, Stephanie Brandone with 21 votes and Marie-Thérèse Désormeaux with 3 votes.
A by-election triggered by vacancy
The by-election was held following the resignation of the previous commissioner, in accordance with provincial legislation requiring a vote when a seat becomes vacant more than a year before the next general school election.
Advance polling took place on March 15, with voting stations located at Jules Verne Elementary School and Saint-Vincent Elementary School, where election day voting was also held on March 22.
Electoral Division 9 includes several schools and centres, including Genesis Elementary, Jules Verne Elementary, Saint-Paul Elementary, Saint-Vincent Elementary, Phoenix Alternative and CDC Pont-Viau.
A candidate focused on student support
In his candidate statement, Lagatta described himself as a father of three and an active member of the community, emphasizing the role of schools not only in education but also in student well-being and community life.
He highlighted support for students with special needs as a key priority, including improved access to specialists, evidence-based interventions and additional resources for teachers.
Lagatta also pointed to the importance of communication, collaboration and transparency in school governance, noting his ability to work in multiple languages as an asset in serving a diverse population.
Looking ahead
Lagatta stated that, if elected, he would work with school staff, parents and community partners to support student success and ensure that all children have the opportunity to thrive.
The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board has not yet announced when the newly elected commissioner will officially assume his duties.
