When in Laval, Sharing Truly Is Caring

What if your next trip was by bike, without worrying about parking or maintenance? The City of Laval actively encourages sustainable travel by launching a subsidy program for the subscription to a bike-sharing service. This is excellent news for citizens who want to combine freedom of movement, economy and ecology!
What is bike sharing?
Bike-sharing is a self-service bike rental service (like BIXI),® accessible at any time of the day. You borrow a bike from one station, ride wherever you want, and then drop it off at another station near your destination. Ideal for short-distance trips, commuting to work, running errands or simply enjoying the city in a different way.
Up to $70 reimbursed by the City
To encourage you to adopt this sustainable mode of transportation, the City of Laval is offering financial assistance to citizens:
· $70 for a season membership to a bike-sharing service.
· $45 with the purchase of three or more monthly subscriptions.
Only one grant is available per person, but each member of the same household can apply separately.
Why opt for bike-sharing?
First, you will no longer need to buy a bike or pay for its maintenance. You only pay for what you use. Then, cycling is zero emissions, zero noise, zero fuel. A small gesture for you, but a big step for the environment. The stations are strategically located. And with the mobile app, you can locate and unlock a bike in seconds. Not to mention, cycling daily, even short distances, improves cardiovascular health, decreases stress, and increases energy levels, so you’ll have it for your health, too.
Bike-sharing and car-sharing: a winning combo
Bike sharing does not replace the car, it complements it. By combining it with a car-sharing service (such as Communauto®), you get the perfect flexibility:
· Take the bike to the metro.
· Use the car for a trip out of town.
· Opt for the bike when the weather is nice, the car when it’s raining.
This synergy between bike-sharing and car-sharing allows many Laval residents to live without a second car, or even a car at all.
How to take advantage of the subsidy?
To be eligible:
· You must reside in Laval.
· You must not have subscribed to a bike-sharing service since January 1, 2020.
· You must have paid for your subscription after January 1, 2025.
The documents to be provided include proof of residence and proof of subscription to the bike-sharing service. If you are applying for a minor child, additional documents will be required.
