The Maison de la Sérénité will hold the fifth edition of its annual fundraising walk, Marchons pour La Maison, on Sunday, Sept. 20, beginning at 10 a.m. at its facility located at 655 Bellevue Ave. in Laval.
The organization hopes to welcome more than 400 participants and raise at least $125,000 to help fund the free palliative care services it provides to people at the end of life and their families.
Last year’s fourth edition set a new fundraising record, bringing together more than 350 participants, including 215 walkers, and raising $121,833.
Supporting an essential community service
For more than 16 years, Maison de la Sérénité has provided end-of-life care and support to patients and their loved ones. The annual walk is one of the organization’s key fundraising events, helping offset the costs not covered by government funding.
According to the organization, more than $1.9 million must be raised through donations each year to maintain its free services.
“This walk is much more than a fundraiser. It is a gathering filled with solidarity, hope and gratitude for everyone who helps make the mission of Maison de la Sérénité possible. Every step taken directly supports free, compassionate end-of-life care for our community,” said honorary co-chairs Anne-Catherine Farley, notary at Farley & Paquette Notaries Inc., and Steve Cormier, Director of Information Resources for the City of Repentigny.
Family activities planned
In addition to the walk itself, organizers have planned a full day of family-friendly activities, including a symbolic butterfly release, a barbecue lunch, live entertainment, inflatable games, face painting for children, gift bags and other activities.
Children aged 12 and under may participate free of charge when accompanied by a registered adult who has met the required fundraising commitment.
Registration details
Registration costs $50, and each participant is asked to raise a minimum of $100 in donations, for a total fundraising commitment of $150.
Registration must be completed through Maison de la Sérénité’s online platform before Sept. 1.
Residents, businesses, community groups and families are encouraged to register individually or form teams to take part in this year’s fundraising walk.
