The Quebec social network Qlub has announced the launch of Qlub Vidéo, a new video-sharing platform positioned as a local and sovereign alternative to global services like YouTube.

The announcement was made on March 25, with the platform now available to users online.

A platform focused on accessibility and local content

Qlub Vidéo allows users to watch videos for free, while content creation is reserved for subscribers to the platform’s paid service, Qlub Pro.

According to the company, the new service is designed to promote the discoverability of Quebec content while offering a space aligned with local values around digital autonomy.

“Qlub Vidéo strengthens Quebec’s digital sovereignty while contributing to the discoverability of Quebec content, both locally and internationally,” said co-founder Philippe Larose Cadieux in a statement.

Integrated within a decentralized network

The platform is directly integrated with the main Qlub application, allowing users to interact with video channels seamlessly.

This interconnection is part of the Fediverse, a global network of more than 42,000 interconnected platforms that operate without centralized control.

Qlub says this approach reflects its goal of building an open and decentralized digital ecosystem.

Part of a broader digital ecosystem

The launch of Qlub Vidéo is part of Qlub’s broader development strategy, which includes offering a suite of tools aimed at giving Quebec users more control over their data and online experience.

The company positions itself as an ethical, algorithm-free social network centered on local information, communities and organizations.
