Collège Montmorency to expand capacity for fall 2026 amid rising demand

Facing sustained growth in admission applications, Collège Montmorency announced it will increase its student capacity for the fall 2026 semester, according to a press release issued February 18, 2026.
The Laval-based institution, the only public CEGEP on the island of Laval, anticipates welcoming up to 10,000 students in 2026. In recent years, space limitations forced the college to refuse certain admission requests, the administration stated.
Increase from 9,350 to 10,000 students
According to the college, the planned increase will raise capacity from 9,350 students in fall 2025 to approximately 10,000 in fall 2026. The expansion follows what the institution describes as a detailed analysis of needs and targeted adjustments to space and resource management.
In the press release, Director General Benoit Lessard said the college opted to optimize its existing resources rather than wait for longer-term infrastructure solutions. He noted that Montmorency’s location in a growing downtown Laval area contributes to sustained enrolment pressure.
New classrooms and facilities
The college outlined several recent infrastructure additions.
In August 2025, a modular pavilion opened, adding eight general-purpose classrooms. In January 2026, the college integrated a new chemistry laboratory, two 60-seat classrooms, two 60-seat amphitheatres, additional workrooms and expanded student living spaces. The nursing laboratories were also redesigned, reflecting the program’s strong demand.
Further projects are underway to support long-term growth. According to the college, a major transformation of the pool sector will double the cafeteria’s capacity and increase the number of sports facilities available to students.
The administration stated that these measures aim to accommodate more students while maintaining academic quality and student services.
Recruitment of additional staff
To support the increased enrolment, the college confirmed it will hire new staff members, including teaching personnel, in the coming weeks.
Collège Montmorency currently serves more than 10,000 students across regular and continuing education programs combined. It offers 26 programs of study, including five pre-university and 21 technical programs, as well as work-study options in 18 programs. Adult learners have access to multiple Attestations of College Studies, a Nursing diploma program, professional development courses and recognition of prior learning services.
The college stated that further details regarding fall 2026 admissions will be communicated through its official channels.
