First Section of Reserved Lane Opens Northbound on Highway 15

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has opened on decembre 5th the first seven-kilometre section of the new northbound reserved lane on Highway 15, between Boulevard de la Seigneurie Ouest in Blainville and Highway 50 in Mirabel. Carpoolers, public transit users, and taxis can now use this portion until the final work is completed in spring 2026.
The reserved lane is permanently dedicated to vehicles carrying at least two people, as well as taxis, buses, and minibuses of all types. Located on the left side of the highway, it is marked by a hatched buffer zone 1.2 metres wide, separating it from the regular traffic lanes. Entry and exit points are clearly indicated with signage and pavement markings. In some areas, traffic will shift left toward the median to navigate around overpasses.
The Ministry is encouraging drivers to stay alert as they adjust to this new road configuration and reminds the public that violating reserved-lane rules may lead to fines of up to $300 and demerit points.
Improving traffic flow and transit efficiency
The project aims to strengthen carpooling and bus service by creating a faster, dedicated corridor during peak travel periods. According to ministry simulations, the new lane could reduce average congestion by about eight minutes during rush hour and provide benefits on weekends and other high-traffic periods.
Based on 2018 origin-destination survey data, the Ministry estimates that the proportion of carpooling vehicles on this segment of Highway 15 could double once the reserved lane is in full operation. This would allow between 1,200 and 1,500 vehicles per hour to use the lane, representing close to 80 percent of its maximum capacity.
Next steps
The second phase of construction between the Curé-Boivin entrance ramp in Boisbriand and Exit 25 in Blainville began in October 2025. The full reserved lane is expected to be operational by the end of 2027.
