The Tree Planting Program Is Back for a 2025 Edition in Laval

Credits City of Laval

After its resounding success of the past two years, the tree planting program is back for another fall. As part of a larger-scale environmental program in Laval, the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy, this initiative will contribute to the reduction of heat islands and improve air quality in the city. With a goal of planting more than 30,000 trees on public and private property, the City invites you to reserve your tree before September 19th. The distribution will take place from September 26th to 29th.

Eligibility

As a reminder, to be eligible for the program, you must be the owner of a piece of land or a tenant holding a planting authorization from the owner of the land. You will need two valid proofs of residence proving your Laval citizenship (driver’s license, electricity bill, etc.). Your tree must be planted on the ground and not in a pot and at a distance of at least two meters from the sidewalk or other infrastructure. Planting is also prohibited in riparian areas. There will also be a prioritization of addresses in or near heat islands.

About the Subsidy

As part of this initiative, the City is committed to reimbursing up to 75% of your costs related to the planting of your tree, up to $200 in subsidies. Eligible purchases for this financial assistance include the purchase of a tree (deciduous or coniferous), a trunk protector as well as delivery and planting services. However, compost and soil costs are not included. Some tree varieties are not allowed (chokecherry, Norway maple and ash) or included in the grant (cedars, weeping trees, stem grafted trees, and shrubs) as well, so it is important to be well informed before applying or purchasing your tree.

Where and How to Apply

As with any municipal grant, you can apply in your file on the City of Laval website (or create an account) and then go to the “Subventions et programmes” section and select the “ Subvention pour la plantation d’un arbre”. Of course, you must buy your tree in the same year as your grant application.

Thus, whether it is to encourage car-sharing, bike-sharing or to guide the use of watering systems, the City is committed to our environment and is committed to preserving it through concrete measures, by raising awareness among its citizens about greener initiatives that will truly make a difference. The tree planting program is a testament to the City’s ecological objectives, and we invite Laval residents to participate in large numbers!
