Musical Zones in Full Swing: Week Four Brings a Rich Tapestry of Sounds to Laval

As the fourth week of Laval’s Zones musicales gets underway, audiences can look forward to another series of memorable outdoor performances. From Métis folk artist Willows to rising star Sandra Contour, from the vibrant energy of Naxx Bitota to the poetic presence of Lynda Lemay, this year’s program continues to celebrate musical diversity and cultural richness.

The 10th edition of Zones musicales brings together over 350 artists across eight outdoor zones, offering more than 40 free concerts throughout the summer. Presented by TD Bank Group, the festival showcases a wide variety of genres from jazz and rock to Brazilian, African, classical, and even Indigenous pop-rock.

Spotlight Performances – July 24 to 27

Naxx Bitota

Thursday, July 24 | 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Naxx Bitota blends traditional African rhythms like Mutuashi, Rumba, and Sebene with contemporary afropop. Her performances radiate warmth and festive energy, even as she addresses powerful themes such as racism, coexistence, and personal growth.

Sandra Contour (Opening Act)

Friday, July 25 | 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sandra Contour rose to prominence in 2021, earning accolades from competitions such as Ma première place des arts and Cabaret Festif!. Her 2024 debut album highlights her poetic lyrics and stripped-down melodies, bringing an authentic folk voice to Quebec’s music scene.

Amay Laoni

With bold, liberating pop music, Amay Laoni transforms the stage into a space of emotional metamorphosis. Inspired by both French chanson and American pop, her dynamic performance explores the journey of personal empowerment through lush melodies and vivid imagery.

Willows
Zone Vieux-Sainte-Rose
Saturday, July 26 | 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Willows offers a folk blend of acoustic instruments and multilingual harmonies in French, English, and Michif-French. Her 2023 album Maison vent earned her a nomination for Indigenous Songwriter of the Year at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Her songs reflect her experience as a Franco-Métis woman from the Red River region.

Lynda Lemay

Saturday, July 26 | 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

In her new tour La onzième folie, acclaimed singer-songwriter Lynda Lemay offers a freer and more spontaneous version of her previous show. Blending humour, intimacy, and emotional storytelling, she performs classics and new compositions with her longtime collaborators Claude Pineault (piano) and Marc Angers (violin).

Twice awarded at the Latin Awards Canada (2022, 2023), Stephanie Osorio brings a colourful musical fusion in Fruta del Corazón, mixing Latin American rhythms with heartfelt poetic lyrics. Singing in both Spanish and French, her show bridges cultures and emotions through a vibrant, tropical sound.
