Youth Engagement at the Heart of Nine New Initiatives in Laval

Credit RLPRE

The Regroupement lavallois pour la réussite éducative (RLPRE) has announced the nine initiatives selected for the 2025–2026 edition of its Innovation Nursery, part of the Community Building the Future for Youth (CBAJ) approach.

Launched in 2021, the Innovation Nursery supports Laval-based community and school organizations by offering financial assistance of up to $5,000 per project. The goal is to allow organizations to test new ideas developed by and for young people, while fostering innovative practices that promote educational success and perseverance among youth aged 12 to 35 who face more challenging life pathways.

According to the RLPRE, this year’s selected initiatives focus on key issues such as academic motivation, mental health, self-esteem, transitions to employment, school or career transitions, and social and professional integration.

With this fifth edition, the total amount invested through the Innovation Nursery since its creation now exceeds $255,000, benefiting community and educational organizations across Laval.

A Selection Reflecting Growing Needs

This year’s call for projects generated a high volume of proposals, highlighting growing needs in the field.

“It was difficult to finalize the selection given both the quantity and the quality of the proposals received,” said Laurence Fauteux, CBAJ Project Officer at the RLPRE. “The needs identified in the community are all significant. Ultimately, the selection committee retained nine initiatives that stood out for their capacity to mobilize young people and respond to concrete needs in the field.”

The selected initiatives align with the priority areas of the CBAJ approach and were chosen for their strong youth engagement and innovative potential.

  • Participatory Creative Workshops — Ferme Jeunes au travail

Detailed descriptions of each initiative are available on the RLPRE website.

Youth-Centred Innovation

The Innovation Nursery emphasizes a by and for youth approach, encouraging young people to take part in every stage of project development, including idea generation, planning, recruitment, implementation and evaluation. According to the RLPRE, this active involvement helps strengthen initiative, autonomy, leadership skills and a sense of personal efficacy among participants.

As in previous editions, participating organizations receive ongoing support to help create environments where youth voices are genuinely integrated into decision-making and project outcomes.
