Linda Caron, Member of the National Assembly for La Pinière and official opposition critic for seniors, caregivers and home care, visited several Meals on Wheels organizations in Laval this week.

During the tour, Caron met with representatives from six organizations that provide popote roulante services across the city. She was accompanied by Monique Sauvé, executive director of the Association des popotes roulantes de Laval.

Virginie Dufour, MNA for Mille-Îles, also joined the visit to organizations located in her riding.

Funding and volunteer recruitment challenges

According to Linda Caron, discussions with community representatives highlighted two major challenges facing the organizations: insufficient funding and difficulties recruiting volunteers to ensure continuity of services.

One of the organizations visited recently had to lay off two employees due to a lack of financial resources, illustrating the pressures faced by community groups providing meal delivery services to vulnerable residents.

During the meetings, several organizations expressed the need for a significant increase in funding through the Programme de soutien aux organismes communautaires (PSOC), as well as tax measures that could help stabilize their operations.

Supporting seniors at home

She emphasized the important role that Meals on Wheels services play in allowing seniors to remain in their homes.

These visits allowed me to meet dedicated individuals who care deeply about their fellow citizens but who say they lack sufficient support from the current government,” Caron said in a statement.

She added that adequate and predictable funding would help organizations recruit and retain staff while continuing to provide essential services to seniors in Laval.

Meals on Wheels programs deliver prepared meals to seniors and vulnerable residents, helping support independence and reduce social isolation while contributing to the broader network of community services across Quebec.
