The City of Laval announced on December 22 the appointment of Jean-François Rousselle as Interim Director of the Service de police de Laval, as part of a transition period.

This appointment follows the resignation of former police chief Pierre Brochet, who has chosen to pursue a career change and take on a new role with Desjardins, according to information confirmed by the City.

Mr. Rousselle will assume the interim leadership of the Laval Police Service while the process to appoint a permanent director is underway.

Effective January 10, 2026, Mr. Rousselle will assume the responsibilities of interim director while continuing to serve as Assistant Director of Corporate and Organizational Services within the Laval Police Service, as well as Director of Laval’s Office of Integrity and Ethics. The appointment was approved by Laval City Council on December 22, 2025, and was followed by a formal swearing-in in accordance with Section 83 of Quebec’s Police Act.

Mr. Rousselle brings more than 20 years of experience to the role. A trained police officer, he holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Management. Over the course of his career, he has held several strategic positions within the Laval Police Service, where he has developed recognized expertise in organizational management and institutional development.

The City indicated that the process to permanently fill the position of Director of the Laval Police Service is currently underway. Mr. Rousselle will remain in the interim role until the completion of that process.
