Virginie Dufour Distributes 125 Backpacks to Mille-Îles Students in Need

For the third year in a row, Mille-Îles MNA Virginie Dufour, in partnership with the Laval-based organization Marraine Étoilée, distributed 125 brand-new backpacks filled with school supplies to children from low-income families.
The initiative, held at the start of the school year, aims to ease the financial pressure on families in eastern Laval, many of whom are facing rising living costs. Thanks to Dufour’s financial support and the dedication of Marraine Étoilée volunteers, this year’s distribution reached a record number of 125 backpacks.
Community Partnerships
The effort was supported by several community partners, including volunteers from the Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul – Conférence Saint-Noël-Chabanel and Conférence Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, the Fabrique de la paroisse Saint-Sylvain, and Église Notre-Dame-de-l’Amour-Divin.
“Back-to-school season is a particularly stressful time for many families in Mille-Îles who live in precarious circumstances. They face not only the rising cost of living but also increasing school-related expenses year after year,” said Dufour. “It is essential for me to support them, help reduce economic inequalities in our riding, and promote academic success by giving students the tools they need to start the year right. My heartfelt thanks to Marraine Étoilée, Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul, Saint-Sylvain parish, and Église Notre-Dame-de-l’Amour-Divin for their exceptional involvement in the success of this record-breaking distribution.”
A Growing Tradition
This marks the third consecutive year of the Mille-Îles backpack distribution initiative, which Dufour says has become a way to show solidarity with vulnerable families and ensure students begin the school year on equal footing.
Dufour is a member of the Official Opposition caucus at the National Assembly of Quebec and serves as MNA for Mille-Îles.
