May 2, Laval city councillor David De Cotis (Saint‑Bruno district) was formally awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal during a special recognition event held at City Hall.

The medal, created in 2023 to mark the beginning of the new monarch’s reign, is presented to Canadians who demonstrate exceptional dedication to public service, volunteerism, and the betterment of society. De Cotis, who began volunteering in 2005 and was elected to council in 2013, was selected for his “remarkable civic engagement and tireless service to the residents of Laval,” according to the senator’s office.

I am deeply honored to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal,” said De Cotis in a phone interview with Média Laval on May 8.

This recognition reflects all my years of community involvement, done with no expectations of return. I accept it with humility and renewed motivation to continue serving Laval residents with dedication and integrity.

The medal was formally presented by Senator Leo Housakos, who commended De Cotis for his ongoing service to local residents and organizations. In his remarks, the councillor highlighted how his efforts from organizing large-scale neighbourhood festivals to supporting seniors stem from a sense of duty to the community.

A well-known figure in Saint‑Bruno, De Cotis is particularly recognized for coordinating large summer and Halloween celebrations, some drawing more than 10,000 participants. He is also actively involved in local fundraising, especially for the Société Alzheimer Laval, and is often seen engaging with residents at local events and meetings.
